Four Stone Products For Landscaping Use

Natural stone products and products made from stone are frequently used in landscaping. Their purposes include decoration and weed or grass control. If your landscaper wants to use some stone products in your yard, here are a few products he/she might suggest.

Riverbed Stone

Riverbed stones come in all shapes, sizes and colors. They are a very appealing product to landscapers and homeowners alike because they are smooth and attractive. You can use larger riverbed stones to create a cobblestone walk or driveway, and you can use the smaller stones as gravel and flower bed fillers. If you want just one color of riverbed stone for a project, your landscaper can find and purchase that for you. It may cost extra, since a singular color involves digging through and sorting several tons of riverbed stone to get enough of a single color.

Sparkly Granite Meditation Spots

Granite has a very sparkly appearance, one which you and your landscaper may find quite useful as a focal point in your yard. "Sitting rocks" or "meditation rocks" are large, uneven, slightly flattened rocks that serve as little resting places outside. Many people prefer large chunks of granite for this purpose because of its sparkly surface. You and your landscaper can discuss how many of these natural "seats" you want to put in your yard.

Marble Fountains

Marble, when carved and polished, has a sheen like no other. It is also very good for making garden statues and fountains. If you want a marble fountain in your yard, have your landscaper create a space for it where it will not become the drop zone for bird feces or leaves, both of which would require extensive professional stone cleaning services to keep the fountain looking nice. For a truly "Roman" effect, try placing some marble pedestals and marble statues about your yard as well.

Dyed Pumice Stone

Pumice is a type of stone found after volcanic ash has collected into a wet mash, cooled and hardened. Dyed pumice stone is used in flower beds for decorative purposes, but it has the added effect of deterring weed growth and the development of ground algae. You can use it to cover bare ground around the bases of trees, shrubs, bushes and flowers that have shot up but not fully bloomed yet. Your landscaper, like Harristone Pre-Cast - Merrillstone Natural Stone Products - G. S. Harris Co., Inc., will show you some samples of this stone product and the available colors from which you can choose.
